ABSTRACT


the distribution of inter-island logistics goods in Indonesia using containers experiences a volume increase every years, especially in Port of Tanjung Perak of Surabaya. The average volume increase of inter island containers loading from 2011 to 2014 is approximately 9 %
This situatuation has become a serious concern for five inter-island container terminal operators in Port of Tanjung Perak Of Surabaya. They are PT. Pelindo III Tanjung Perak Branch. PT. Terminal Teluk Lamong. PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya. PT. Berlian Jasa Terminal Indonesia and PT. Nilam Port Terminal Indonesia Competing For Gaining profits from the situation
PT. Berlian Jasa Terminal Indonesia (BJTI), one of the operators which operates Terminal Petikemas Berlian, must be able to create a competitive advantage in managing inter-island containers terminal from its competitors, so that BJTI becomes the first choice of port services customers which are domestic container shipping companies
The thesis focused on the creation of competitive advantage come from company, where the source of competitive advantage come from company's internal namely, resources and capabilities that become its core competencies and assessed by analysis of valuable, rare, impefectly imitable, non substitutable ( VRIN) which is a criterion of competitive advantage for a company
This thesis produced information that BJTI has a competitive advantage which is temporal on tangible assets such as technological resources and intangible assets such as human resources and innovations.
BJTI also had sustanable competitive advantage which are intangible assets of reputation resources such an trust and brand image and also human resources such as human resource capabilities that are able the develop new business outside the core business of the company
